Ford Recalls F-150 Lightning Pickup For Steering Failure Risk

Ford has announced a recall for 29,501 F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks due to a potentially serious problem with their front suspension that may result in a loss of steering. This recall is an expansion of an earlier one (NHTSA recall number 24V-949).

The issue centers on the upper control arm, which may not have been properly tightened during assembly. If the ball joint nut isn’t secured correctly, the upper control arm can separate from the knuckle assembly.

As you can imagine, this could lead to a loss of vehicle control and significantly increase the risk of a crash.

This affects certain 2024–2025 model year F-150 Lightning. Ford first became aware of the problem on March 6 after an owner reported a front wheel failure with only 634 miles on the truck. While Ford hasn’t reported any injuries related to this defect, they have acknowledged one claim of property damage.

What You Should Do If Your Truck Is Affected

Ford dealers will inspect the upper control arm ball joint nut on all affected trucks. If necessary, they will replace the nut and/or the knuckle assembly entirely, free of charge.

Ford will begin notifying owners by mail on June 9. However, you don’t have to wait to find out if your truck is part of this recall.

– You can contact Ford Customer Service directly at 1-866-436-7332. The internal recall number for this issue is 24S76.

– You can also check if your specific vehicle is impacted by entering your VIN at the NHTSA website.
