BorgWarner has announced a new contract with a major Chinese EV manufacturer for its electric motors. The awarded motor features a platform-based design, which BorgWarner says is compatible with a wide range of EV models.
The electric motor incorporates BorgWarner’s ultra-short hairpin welding process. The company says that this process reduces end-turn height, resulting in a more compact structure and improved space utilization—considerations relevant for manufacturers working to optimize packaging in high-density EV drivetrain environments.
To address growing demand for electric motors in China, BorgWarner has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Wuhu municipal government for a new manufacturing facility dedicated to electric drive systems. According to BorgWarner, the Wuhu plant is nearing operation and will include intelligent manufacturing lines capable of producing multiple motor platforms on shared lines—an approach intended to increase production capacity and support scaled delivery to vehicle manufacturers.
“We are pleased with the continued progress of our electric motor business in China. Our partnership with this customer spans nearly a decade,” said Dr. Stefan Demmerle, Vice President and President and General Manager of PowerDrive Systems.
